I have won the Esther Ben\u00edtez Award, the Astrid Lindgren Prize and the Antifaz Award.<\/p>\n

I have translated over 400 titles<\/a>, alone or in collaboration with other colleagues. I focus on fiction, essays, graphic novels and illustrated books. I am also a member of Barcelona Kontext<\/a>, a team of translators who specialise in exhibition projects and art books.<\/p>\n

I write<\/a> about translation for publications such as Vasos Comunicantes<\/a><\/em>, Estudios de Traducci\u00f3n<\/a><\/em>, Panacea<\/em><\/a> and El Trujam\u00e1n<\/em><\/a> at Centro Virtual Cervantes. I was co-editor of Dos.Dos<\/em> magazine and I have contributed to Out<\/em>, El Pa\u00eds<\/em>, El Temps <\/em>and Granta en Espa\u00f1ol<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I started teaching<\/a> in 1992 at the University of the West Indies<\/a> and from 2012 to 2022 I was a lecturer on the Master\u2019s Degree in Literary and Audiovisual Translation at Universitat Pompeu Fabra<\/a>. I currently teach translation at Penguin Random House’s Cursiva<\/a> school. Prizes, Fellowships and Residencies<\/h3>\n

In 2023 I won the Antifaz Award to a Career in Translation<\/a> from the Sal\u00f3n del C\u00f3mic de Valencia and the C\u00e1tedra de Estudios del C\u00f3mic Fundaci\u00f3n SM-Universidad de Valencia. In 2022 I received FIT<\/a>‘s Astrid Lindgren Prize<\/a> for a career as a translator of children\u2019s literature.\u00a0In 2017 I won the Esther Ben\u00edtez Award (ACE Traductores<\/a>) for my translation of Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child<\/em><\/a> (Lumen). Finally, in 2011 my annotated translation of\u00a0 Rudyard Kipling<\/a>‘s Kim<\/em><\/a> (Juventud) received the Banco del Libro<\/a> award for the best YA book in translation.<\/p>\n

Graphic Novels<\/h3>\n

I fondly remember my first professional translation, in 1989: V for Vendetta<\/em>, by Alan Moore<\/strong> and David Lloyd<\/span><\/strong>. In the world of comics and graphic novels, I have translated some of the most significant authors from the second half of the twentieth century, such as Guido Crepax<\/strong>, Art Spiegelman<\/strong>, Charles Burns<\/strong>, Jean-Michel Charlier<\/strong>, Howard Cruse<\/strong>, Alejandro <\/strong>Jodorowsky<\/strong> and Moebius.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have also translated works by some of the current stars, such as Marjane Satrapi<\/strong>,\u00a0Igort<\/strong>, Joe Sacco<\/strong>, Zerocalcare<\/strong>, Giorgia Marras<\/strong>, Nine Antico<\/strong>, Edward Ross<\/strong>, David B.<\/strong>, Nicolas de Cr\u00e9cy<\/strong>,\u00a0Bryan Lee O’Malley<\/span><\/strong>, Greg Pak<\/strong> <\/span>and Tom Gauld<\/strong>. Museums and Art Centres<\/h3>\n

One of my favourite areas is that of museums and art centres. It has allowed me to learn so much since the mid-nineties, translating books on Brassa\u00ef, Piranesi, Sophie Calle and Federico Fellini, for example, often with my partners at Barcelona Kontext<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Short Stories<\/h3>\n

The first text I ever translated was a short story by E. M. Forster, thanks to a wonderful teacher who encouraged me to delve into this world. Since then, over the years, I have translated stories by authors such as James Baldwin, Erskine Caldwell, Italo Cavino, Thomas Hardy, Grazia Deledda, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry James,\u00a0Terry Jones<\/span>, Jack London, Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Susan Sontag, Mark Twain and H. G. Wells\u00a0for different publishers. And lately I have been lucky enough to translate Margaret Atwood, Jonathan Franzen,\u00a0Rebekah Frumkin and Zadie Smith for Granta en Espa\u00f1ol<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Illustrated Books<\/h3>\n

I translate a lot of illustrated books for children, into both Spanish and Catalan, for publishers such as Kalandraka<\/a>, Flamboyant<\/a>, Kireei<\/a>, Montena<\/a>, Lata de Sal<\/a>, La Locomotora<\/a> and Juventud<\/a>.
