{"id":8450,"date":"2020-10-08T19:07:38","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T17:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carlosmayor.com\/?p=8450"},"modified":"2020-10-08T19:29:29","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T17:29:29","slug":"international-and-virtual-translation-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.carlosmayor.com\/en\/international-and-virtual-translation-day\/","title":{"rendered":"International (and Virtual) Translation Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we have more talks and interviews, three to be precise, to celebrate September 30th, International Translation Day (ITD), in this virtual year.<\/p>\n<p>To begin with, Bel\u00e9n Santana, who won Spain\u2019s National Translation Award last year with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anagrama-ed.es\/libro\/panorama-de-narrativas\/memorias-de-una-osa-polar\/9788433979995\/PN_969\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Memorias de una osa polar<\/em><\/a> by Yoko Tawada (Anagrama), and who is also a lecturer at the University of Salamanca, spoke in an interview about the profession, the challenges it presents and the satisfactions it gives.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4H9szLzeqbs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.librerialalumbre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Lumbre<\/a> bookshop in Madrid, Amaya Garc\u00eda Gallego and Pablo Mo\u00ed\u00f1o S\u00e1nchez, moderated by Mateo P. Avit Ferrero, celebrated the day on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/ace-traductores.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACE Traductores<\/a>. They talked about translating songs and used as an example Boris Vian&#8217;s <em>Le D\u00e9serteur<\/em>. And they even sang!<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m6lU2nkHuKs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Teresa Lanero and Irene Oliva were interviewed in <em>Traspunte<\/em>, on Onda C\u00e1diz TV, about how they understand their job and about everything it has taught them.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YMl1gNVYhXc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Also, on the occasion of this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/edl.ecml.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Day of Languages<\/a> on September 26th, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/literary-translation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunicglobal.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EUNIC network of EU National Institutes for Culture<\/a> had writer Irish Edna O&#8217;Brien as a guest. She read a passage from her latest novel, <em>Girl<\/em>.
